United States History
20th Century Popular Culture
I graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Communications and spent the first 20 years of my professional life as a television journalist. In 1998, I decided I needed a new challenge and went back to school to get my Masters. I was hired at Marist in the fall of 2001. Like a lot of the people who work at Marist, I was also a Marist parent; David '02 and Caitlin '06. I have seen the powerful impact Marist had on my kids.
My journalism background and interest in government and politics brought me to Marist to teach Government and U.S. History. I have also developed two elective classes —Street Law and Popular Culture — which give students a different perspective on important issues of the day.
During my time at Marist, I have coached basketball, golf, baseball, and speech and debate.
Away from school I enjoy being outdoors; taking my dog, Ripken, on a hike or working in my garden. I volunteer with Food for Lane County at the Dining Room. I've been married for 34 years to Kris and recently we became grandparents when our son, David, and his wife, Elizabeth (Jaspers '01) had twins!
